Acclaimed as the winner of Netflix's Blown Away, New York-based artist Deborah Czeresko captivated visitors as GAPP Artist in Residence in April of 2025. Known for their innovative use of Venetian-style glassmaking techniques, Czeresko pushes the boundaries of glass as a medium, challenging contemporary conventions. Referencing an intriguing range of topics from food to art history, Czeresko opens perspectives and initiates conversations around themes of identity, gender and power.
During their GAPP Residency, Czeresko’s dynamic live glassblowing demonstrations and public lecture provided visitors with an exciting opportunity to experience their expressive artistry and technical skill up close — and to see the Museum’s skilled glass studio staff working in concert to support that creative journey.
GAPP links artists, audiences and the art of glass through direct engagement and open studio time. Czeresko’s residency allowed visitors to share in the excitement of ideas taking shape in real time, demonstrating the power of our Glass Studios to connect the community with contemporary art, craft and design.
