New York-based artist Saya Woolfalk embarked on her GAPP residency in August of 2024, seeking the creative power of interdisciplinary collaboration. Recognized for creating immersive, fictional worlds, Woolfalk explores the complexities of cultures and nature as they mingle and hybridize, constantly revealing vivid, often spiritual narratives. Using a broad range of media, Woolfalk’s imaginings become reality — and an innovative, layered form of storytelling.
Woolfalk’s work in the Glass Studios continued her exploration of utopianism, hybridity and transformation. From the production of glass busts designed to complement and interact with ceramic heads Woolfalk brought on site, to flat glass works containing foraged plants, her GAPP residency provided visitors with an opportunity to share in her collaborative journey.
Through direct engagement and open studio time, GAPP connects artists, audiences and the art of glass via direct engagement and open studio time. As a GAPP Artist in Residence, Woolfalk also created a way for community members to see ideas taking shape in real time — bridging contemporary art, craft and design within one of the country’s premier glass programs.
