The Toledo Museum of Art is excited to welcome Thaddeus Wolfe as an upcoming GAPP artist in residence. A Toledo local and graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Wolfe has become a distinctive voice in the medium of contemporary glass. His work is represented by leading galleries including Friedman Benda (New York), Pierre Marie Giraud (Brussels), and Volume Gallery (Chicago), and is held in major museum collections such as the Brooklyn Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, and Yale University Art Gallery.
Wolfe is best known for his Assemblage series, which began as an exploration of mineral forms and evolved into a visual language referencing architecture and modern art. His signature process combines layered color and carving techniques to reveal striations within the glass, creating forms that evoke Brutalist architecture and geological structures. Each piece is unique — crafted from single-use molds that ensure no two works are alike.
During his residency, Wolfe will experiment in TMA’s Glass Studio, pushing the boundaries of his sculptural approach and inviting visitors to witness his creative process firsthand. This is a rare opportunity to see how an artist transforms raw material into complex, architectural forms through innovation and craft.
Join us for his public talk on April 23 to learn more about his artistic journey, techniques, and the evolution of glass in contemporary design. Registration to come soon.
